There are two distinct ways to purchase a timeshare property. The most common, and also the most costly is to purchase directly from the resort company. Resorts have a constant flow of vacationers who stay at the resort, and often take the timeshare tour. Many of these travelers purchase a unit directly from the resort because they don’t know that they can purchase a timeshare on the resale market directly from the units’ owner.
By buying on the resale market, timeshare buyers have the opportunity to directly negotiate with the owner, often, they can purchase the same unit with the same benefits at 25%-40% below the cost offered by the resort. Buyers should also be aware, that financing is readily available for the purchase of a timeshare, and they should shop for a competitive rate just as they would for a home mortgage.
Resorts tend to offer loans at a substantially higher interest rate than most 3rd party banks and lenders.
